posting because...i think i haven't posted in a long while. nothing much to say really, except to thank God for being truly present in my exams even. no, i'm not saying that i'm going to ace every paper, that's not the point (and no i don't think i'm going to ace every paper lest you're wondering). the point is i guess i'm discovering for myself that it's really the process that's important as well. it's sad that society robs the pleasure of the process in almost everything we do. ie, you can love studying for a subject, love learning it, but the exam grade robs you off your love, and even solely determines your capability for it. i remember i used to argue with tania about this. how the process isn't important, although we know it should be, it isn't because of what the world sees- results. i'm learning, and it's seeing things and believing them. i'm a slow learner, can't help it lah, not very bright i am!
have to write about CS, because i think the whole process has helped me to discover so much more about God, myself, my walk. it was a gradual process of first adsorbing, and then absorbing the truths that were presented. still learning, but this isn't learning by the head, by route-processes, it's learning with the heart- conviction from the heart. thanks for this opportunity, for CS, despite me thinking whether i should go for something like this (the word healing got me a bit scared). but don't we all need healing and restoration in this world that seeks so much to tear down than to build up?
better snooze, so here's my post! many a times i do wonder whether what i post affects the people reading them. because these words portray me (or at least a part of). if you ask me why i blog, there are different reasons for different occasions. for this instance, it'll be gratitude that i want to share with you folks. in case you're wondering, that's me. i think quite a bit, don't just type type type and click 'post'. i can't because i know everything said has consequences- big or small.
and it's the same with any prose.

Saviour, He can move the mountainsmy God is mighty to save, He is mighty to saveforever, author of salvationHe rose and conquered the graveJesus conquered the grave
- mighty to save, hillsong united sung this song in church today, together with a moving sermon by pastor kayhuat. it was odd because his sermon wasn't a fantastic exposition on the divinity of Christ. it was really the testimonies which struck, and clement chow poured his heart into leading worship. to me at the end of it all, i felt that i had encountered God. which is one of the main reasons why we go to church every sunday in the first place. and you know the interesting bit, when pastor k.h first started preaching his sermon today, i was like huh? where's he getting at... shouldn't he be expounding on perhaps why over church history, reasons why people rejected the divinity, and then trump it up with sheer truth. and i couldn't see where he was getting at, think the crowd was too, when he asked a question like 'now do you believe' -pretty much silent- but realising that if i allowed such thoughts to continue, i'll probably just drift off into space without hearing the rest of it. and so i asked God to remove whatever prejudice i might have formed already.
gosh, maybe i shouldn't blog such stuff. okay, edited pastor's name with the . in between in the hope that pesky search engines won't list my blog if people search for his name. oh yes seriously pastors names appear in blogs! haha, i know cos i tried before, melvinhuang's pretty popular.
oh ya i better post this here. folks, i lost my phone. never lost a phone before, so this is a first for me. still can contact me at my same old number which i obviously won't post here. if you know me you should know my number.
give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. -2 thessalonians 5:18 despite wanting to get the phone back, and calling my number many many times. you know when you know you've lost something, there's this immense feeling of lost, that sheer emotion. and then you grieve, and perhaps even scold and get frazzled internally. well, i didn't, so fellow lightstickers our last lesson on 'experiencing the peace of Jesus' in this... that came so naturally. was still quite excited about the race, and i think i cheesed grace off. not the best person to run a race with, and i do apologise! i guess i shouldn't assume you know economics stuff despite being an economics student.
so i give thanks, even with my lost phone. and no worries, if you're like grace, i've got no explicit videos or pictures in my phone.
anyway back to the main topic. most of the time God can't help us because we don't believe He's mighty enough to deliver us, to save us. or maybe we do, but we just don't think He'll do it for us. but He would... and contrary to what the whole world might tell us, it's our biggest gain to believe in this. as much as i struggle with it, to be truly honest, gosh the ways of the world are enticing! and the thought of doing the world on my own sounds much better than surrendering all to God. i don't know why i'm always drawn back, i don't know why... because God is a God of compassion, because He cares, and you know the list can go on infinitely because He beyond our imagination, beyond what we can possibly describe.
and to Him we ascribe all glory and praise.

And can it be that I should gainAn interest in the Savior’s blood?Died He for me, who caused His pain—For me, who Him to death pursued?Amazing love! How can it be,That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?... - and can it be
in case you're wondering i didn't pen such moving words. it's dear mr charles wesley (or actually reverend).
isn't it amazing how we look back and see how wonderful God has been in our lives, and continues to be. and we wonder, 'how can it be?' because we're in sheer awe. but whilst we do look back and wonder, let us always remember it isn't about the blessings in our lives that we should say 'how can it be', because in the storm it isn't the recollection of past blessings that will enable us to plod on. it's about our faith in Christ, our rock, whom we know we can stand firm amidst the miry clay of despair, disappointment, grief, shock, and the multitude of things the world hits us with, or maybe whatever we hit ourselves with.
today's 122 anniversary, urghhhh my mum and sis forgot it was combined service. so in the end didn't end up going to the sanctuary cos in my opinion i though it'll be pointless if we couldn't sit in the main sanctuary. next year, next year i'll make it into the sanctuary. to be honest was quite sad because i really like traditional (esp for anniversary combined service) and was just standing at p&p and going 'grrrrrrrrr'. but i knew it wasn't what style of worship service that matters, it's about desiring to, despite (perhaps) a service you're not used to/ not looking forward to. and the best part was i recalled this article i just read a few hours before (yes i slept like in the wee hours of the morning again). the article was about worship style, and it was an overdue email, was just thinking to myself, 'wow how apt'. yes in case you're wondering i've got many emails that i've yet to read, quite a lot of commentaries and all. so that was the once in the the last week or two that i actually read my email commentaries again. pretty amazing huh.
i must be quite old at heart. i like traditional, whereas my mum and sis prefer prayer & praise. okay, better run off now! next week's cny, how fast!

two years, part iii'm back with part ii.
did i mention i nearly went to the sanctuary instead of the hall on my first visit there, and to top that i nearly went to the wrong church too! but for both i realised nearly as quickly as i stepped in.
okay in order to recap that very day, the person who led worship was clementchow. the preacher was pastor wendywatson. and till now (maybe cos of past bias) i still think clementchow's the best worship leader, and wendywatson most times when she speaks it just touches my heart or the very least stirs me. and note that best is relative here, it's personal, and i do believe different preachers speak to different people better than others, same for worship leaders... that said we should never think that God will only speak to us through our 'favourite' worship leaders or pastors. but i don't wish to digress, so you get my drift.
and the scripture reading of the day was from micah 6:8 (gosh i think it was the first time in my life i heard about this book!)
'He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.'
and one song sung included the above verse in the chorus.
2 years ago, i decided to church hop because it seemed right at that point. to be honest it may sound wrong, but well the whole story's like this... i tried to grow in the rc church, i was involved in sjs in 01, and for dec and even jan i tried going to weekday mass. and somehow the more i tried the more i felt i needed a new environment. people might be quick to chide... the thing is although i don't know how 'right' my decision was, looking on hindsight it just might be. and whatever it is, no matter where we are, God is a personal God and He'll know how to supply us wherever we us.
and i could continue writing about the thoughts then, but it'll be too long.
there's just so many things that have happened throughout the 2 years here. but i think most importantly are the friends i've made along the way...
the initial mhi bunch- des, reg, xiaojing. can't seem to remember much but we really grew closer because of the camp. then there's hannah, our dear coordinator. wei nurn, whom was the friendly guy i met during the cny party i think.
and then prior to the starting of sg, there was jon and zy.
and yes lightsticks my dear sg. what more can i ask for an sg, a group of loving friends desiring to grow deeply in Christ despite all our struggles.
and the people i've met along the way, the courses i went for...
from june, july and aug 06:
bmc- brought back sweet memories because me, des, jon and zy attended together. still remember how we had to lead worship twice (when the other groups only had to do it once).
dpl- got to know people like subin, winnie, weewee, edna, jessie... and since i attended it with des and xj, it made it even better. went for cop (concert of prayer), which wasn't much of a problem for nocturnal me, probably the same for owl senior (hoot hoot). it was on the 8th of aug (i still remember, even for one who's lousy with dates). was from 10pm to 6am i think... after that we (me, jon, des, xj) had breakfast at shaw macs!
sign language class where jon was co-faciliatator! it was quite fun, where again the same bunch of people- me, des, xj and zy attended.
then there was the basic small group leader's course i attended...
don't think i'll be able to spend so much time with courses this long holiday though. but that period was special... at least i could look back and instead of slothily lazing about my long hols i spent it more judiciously.
not sure how to end this, because i'm trying to end this quick, but well... 2 years and hopefully counting for many more to come.

two years, part ii went back to the av library last
sunday (after a seemingly long hiatus from my supposed 'treasure trove'), borrowed 3 sermons - 2 which i missed due to me hopping from hall to sanctuary, and well the last one, that's special... it's a recording of 23
jan 2005.
and today's 23
jan 2007!
so it marks 2 years, not great in quantitative terms but it's a milestone alright. i love
wesley, and
i'm not saying it like a starry eyed optimist. but in retrospect it's the perfect church for me, and it must have only been by His provision that i ended up here (and not the church opposite raffles city,
hehe). it was the first i visited, and there was this inexplicable sense of warmth that i felt, despite it being a big church. and maybe like what
weewee (my
dpl course
facil) said, 'this is THE one (church)', you just know somehow.
i mentioned it before, who led worship, who preached the sermon - yes
tania i still think she's quite funky.
listening to the recording now (playing in the background), i can remember how i was touched by God's love that very day. then (and actually now too) with my little bible knowledge, God portrayed in the OT seemed much harsher than God
portaryed in the NT... but this sermon gives a new insight, a fresh view that indeed God (even though we know by theory that God is the same yesterday, today and forever) is the same in both OT and NT.
and i was touched so much by the passion of (yes that funky pastor) the delivery of the sermon. passion not for the audience of 600, but for truly an audience of one. love from the heart, and only because He first loved us.
i just hope my blog isn't
searchable on search engines, so far it's not on the famous g search engine, but i found it through another quite popular search engine (oh no!). anyway i don't think pastors are that
bohliao to search their own names... it's just odd reading about yourself on someones blog, don't you think?
oddly my blog seems to seem more holy somehow. to be honest i used to try to steer away from 'christian related posts', but if my primary purpose of my blog is to archive milestones (at least some) then it's more than difficult to steer away. but i stress again, doesn't mean that this blog seems holy that i am holy, i think the closest i can get to being holy is being holey.
as in HOLE-Y.
colloquial for lots of holes, because i truly leak! and all i can do is ask that the rate of flow in will be far greater than the rate of outflux.
part i because there's more to say, but just no time to write. 2plus am and i'm still trying to figure out my biz finance question. shall snooze very very soon though...
watch out for part ii!

carols by candlelight, wesley mc

finally some pictures in my drab and erudite blog. message was by rev alvin chan, and one important point was there's only so much we can do to love others... but God on the other hand, He's the real answer, especially those who are broken hearted, feel that there's no one in this world for them. we can only do so much to love others, we are only one, limited by time, human efforts and abilities...
no pictures for tomorrow though, haha. people would think i'm siao snapping pictures in the hall... maybe for watchnight covenant renewal service.
will upload a collage on the garden show soon.

decided to write about my day today, or rather thoughts about it. now, should i go about it in an antichronological manner, or a chronological manner?
okay, antichronologically... went to ikea for dinner. and was just sitting around, since my sis and mum went to get the food. there was this woman, heavily engrossed using her phone, probably informing her relatives that she secured a position (just like holding a fort). and this cleaner came by, pointed and asked (think maybe gestured also) whether she needed her to clean it. and guess what the women did? she had this condescending look, suddenly noticed the heap of rubbish, and gestured violently and with absolute impoliteness and displeasure (as if it was the cleaner's fault for subtly finding out whether that customer allowed her to clean the table).
i was extremely disgusted, by the act definitely. but before i jump any guns and before you think i'm judgemental here. i will bring up my point, i can't understand how some people can treat people who are obviously helping us, making this world a cleaner place in the way they know how, like that? well, and i'll just leave it hanging there...
okay, now here's an apology to bongster for not really responding on the line. just that had to get this off my chest somehow.
so yes, please be more polite to our cleaners, especially when they are not grumpy old aunties who yell at you for no good reason, somehow dump some dirt on the table onto you. why? because we should. not because we think we are more educated, better-off, or anything for that matter, but because we should, as simple as that.
next point, today's palm sunday. and today when they beamed the sanctuary over to the hall via cctv, somehow i missed the traditional kind of service. the slow hymns, filled with depth and meaning, traditions followed... maybe i would try going to the sanctuary on special occassions like palm sunday, good friday, etc.
today's sermon by dr tankimhuat was insightful. everytime someone speaks about the bible, it's fascinating. not by looking at the literal, and slightly deeper meanings, but when you expound on something, and analyse it, just like what i used to do in literature... just fascinates me. to always be able to fall back on God's love for us, i think too many times we (or should i say me) don't believe how much God actually loves us. i mean, yes Christ died for us while we were still sinners, and we can even throw in the times when God was faithful to us when we knew we were less than worthy. but i guess people, we need reminders, reminders that there is someone out there who loves us unconditionally.
one thing to note, how can some people always seem to have a smile on their face? like pastor wendy watson... her smile is contagious, it warms your heart, and makes you want to smile as well in a sense. obviously i don't know her in person, but just as another pastor of the church, but she just seems to be always so smiley. so i was really just wondering... that said she's definitely a talented and gifted speaker, blessed i would say!
shall read some books. realised i've got seriously a lot, a LOT to study for my exams.
