movie module

the brilliant thing about taking a movie module is that... you get to watch movies! a bit duh. or rather you're actually MADE to watch movies, compulsary- bo bian, must watch! i really love this mod! i must admit i did not catch ALL the movies, only most of the required viewings. i decided i will catch those i didn't, and rewatch some of those that i did in the hols. seriously, movies on the past have so much richness in them, so much to offer, for what technology did not offer, their creativity did.

and i better laud it before the grade robs me of my love for this module.

somehow i can't write brilliant essays in exams, just can't. i'm a slow poke remember, need time to collect my thoughts and think through my argument.

anyway back to lauding the movie module, and the movies shown in the module. ever heard of:

film number 1) was made in 1954, by akirakurosawa, imagine that! wondered where the archetype of a collective group of men to accomplish something, like oceans eleven. seven samurai had it! and the choices of shots in this black & white film- amazing! obviously i'm just an amateur film watcher here, but it goes to show how films of the past are stereotyped as boring, dull, antiquanted, irrelevant to society of the present... all fallacies!

1) seven samurai
2) magnificient seven, 1960
3) once upon a time in the west, 1968 (sergioleone)
4) blazing saddles, 1974 (melbrooks)
5) spaceballs, 1987 (melbrooks)
6) sabrina, 1954 (billywilder)
7) rear window, 1954 (alfredhitchcock)
.
.
.
(note: condensed the director's name into one word, in the hopes that pesky search engines won't find this post)

so next time you think of picking up an old film, do so! obviously not old films are that brilliant. but don't let the technology when the film was made stop you from doing so. b&w films have their own classic feel to it, and provide a sort of enigmaticness as the brilliance of true colours are unable to be shown. and let the brilliance of these well-known directors of their time astound you with their artistic creativity and sheer brilliance.
