the tipping point

so that was the title of the sermon by pastor wendy in church on sunday. not sure whether it's hearing it for the second time, or because she was much more animated in her delivery this time, it sunk in more. to think of it, i'm not a fragrant tipper... but before i expound, must add actually i just wanted to write about my week in general but thought that would seem to be topicless, since 'tipping point' sounds like an interesting heading, just forcibly sticking it in, and perhaps to educate you folks out there about a new term. believe it or not it's actually the title of a book by malcolm gladwell (?), and in short a term for social epidemics in a sense. like you know we scientists or science students love those exponential curves, it's when something suddenly shoots up, that point - that's THE tipping point! like for our dear acid-base titration we call it, the equivalence point. the point where the graph shoots up as the pH changes becomes greater and greater as neutralisation occurs. anyway enough of chem, but A level chem students you get the drift.

and a tipper is those trucks which has those hydraulics that tilt stuff over, or dump them. didn't check on this definition so if it's wrong aiya pastor salah lah (no offence!). and the gist is we can only dump what we are filled with, if we are filled with hate, we certainly won't be dumping love and affection unto others, if we're filled with pride we too will dump arrogance, envy unto others... we tip what we are filled with. initially i thought this doesn't sound totally right... i mean even if i'm bitter or hurt, i can hide it so much so that i don't hurt others. but to be honest, i think consciously while we don't tip hurt or pain unto others, we do so by subconsciously tipping hurt or pain, eg remarks or so. and as hard as it sounds, forgiveness is key, and so very important. crap i think i can be a sermon notes contributor already!

so the question is, what do we tip? are we fragrant tippers like peter in acts?

so back to me relooking my week. met up with fern, pris and yuan hong on fri at vivo city. seriously didn't expect myself to visit it so soon, don't like crowds and big places... oh no i sound space-o-phobic or what, definitely crowd-o-phobic though. definitely the sit around and chill in quiet spaces kind of person (note spaces, meaning everywhere around can be crowded but just the space i'm in, the company i'm with is not too overwhelming i'll be okay if you get what i mean). went to crystal jade dine in to eat, the restaurant has a sea view! splendid. had peking duck - yum! all in all a sumptuous dinner without burning TOO big a hole in thy pocket.

almost 2 years have past since we sat our As. if i could say anything good that came out of ny it has to be my bunch of jc friends, and yes my dearest bio teacher mrs cindy tay, or auntieeee!!! if you're reading this, it's been a blessing to have known you, and to continue to keep in contact with you.

on a sidenote, next week is hymn and praise sunday. i'm wondering if i should hop over to traditional, but if i do i'm afraid sis would be bored stiff from all the hymn singing since there's no sermon (though i know there's some 'speaking' bits but it's still hymns dominated).

realised i forgot to add went for benny ho's eccl. last wed. it was interesting and insightful definitely, not too overwhelming with content.. didn't go for the 2nd session of part 1 and wouldn't be able to go for part 2 either, so have to rely on loaning the audio cds. wesley's audio-video library is seriously a new-found gem! -beams with joy- the library too... though it seems that not too many members make use of the resources they have.

exams coming up, a good 27 days to go.. sighs.
