i'm awake pretty late for a school day, 1am. or should i say early? it's only an hour past midnight, which is theoretically start of the morning? was looking through the rankings, ij is 22nd, well, at least we improved! a pat on the back to the class of 2002, we rock! hehe... i don't think our distinction rate for lit, 80 plus % can be surpassed so easily. i mean, not like 1 person took it and therefore the distinction rate is 100% but a substantial number took it and the result is so positive. hehe...

you know the thing about abolishing the ranking system. i guess it does have its pros and cons. i for one am for it, and nah i won't add in a large extent (tt kinda ss crap). i would say yes, because it does bring about progress but it is undeniable that sacrifices will have to be made. shan't elaborate as it is really pretty late but the other side of the coin is, the extent at which these sacrifices are made would be where all the rebuttals come in from the people against the ranking system. like, the rankings basically measure acaedemic excellence based on the o-levels. i mean, yes there are other ranking charts, but won't you agree that the others are rather secondary compared to the school ranking based on the o-levels? ahaa, rhetoric question... well, can't blame society, it's been long drilled into us that the mantra to success is education and good grades. so yea, if schools over focus on just acheiving acaedmic excellence, they might neglect other areas such as moral development, sports, the arts, etc. here is where is gets scary, due to the pursuit of good rankings, the school might not even provide the best education for their students. take english for example, schools might not even expose students' to argumentative essays, lest teach them how to write one. but rather they will teach them to write those 'o-so-boring' story telling essays. and why? because it is easier for most students to score in the latter, this is proven statistically.

if only schools could focus on acaedemic excellence and at the same time provide students with a holistic education. it is undeniable that academia is important and thus it should be placed with a wee bit more importance compared to the rest. but unfortunately, there is always a tend to over focus on getting good grades. problems arise because it is remarkably hard if not impossible to attain the above.

ahh, this essay sucks. i don't even know why i started babbling about the matter in the first place. whatever it is, i'd prob. edit it another time. hopefully it's not confusing, shouldn't be eh. i gtg now. yawn.
